Wimbledon College Sixth Form students have achieved impressive results in this year’s A Level and Vocational qualifications. The results are significantly higher than those achieved in 2019 and are enabling the vast majority of students to take up places at top universities around the country or to commence apprenticeships in a range of fields.
At A Level, students achieved a pass rate of over 99% with 55% of all grades at A*/B. 80% were graded A*- C. Results in Vocational courses were equally impressive with a 100% pass rate and almost half of all grades awarded were at least Distinction level. These figures, achieved in a wide range of subjects, are well above national figures, which is very pleasing.
It is always pleasing to see students following their interests and talents, which they are supported to do throughout Sixth Form through a wide-ranging careers programme, as well as access to individual careers support. The breadth of courses and apprenticeships that students have gained places on reflects this. These include Accounting, Acting, Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture, Biology, Biomedical Science, Business and Management, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, English, Film Making, Geography, History, Law, Marine Biology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Psychology, Sociology, and Sport & Exercise Science.
Outstanding individual achievements in A Levels include Aristotle with 2A*, 2As; Adam with A*, 3As; Charlie with 2A*s, A; Anton, Gabriel, James, James and Lucas who each achieved A*, 2As and Jonathan and Uchenna who both achieved 3 As. In Vocational courses Jurgen achieved D*DD and Blake and Clive both achieved DDD.
Amongst these are Charlie who has a place at Pembroke College, Oxford to study English Language and Literature, Aristotle who has a place to study Finance at LSE and Gabriel who has a place to study Medicine at St Andrews University.
Headteacher, Adrian Laing, said “Congratulations to all of the students on their well-deserved results. In a year where the overall grade percentages are much closer to pre-Covid levels in England it is very pleasing to see such excellent results both in A Level and Vocational subjects. Such results are only achieved through commitment and hard work and it is a credit to the students and to the support that they have received from their parents and teachers, that they have achieved such positive outcomes. This support from teachers was recognised in our recent Ofsted report. We wish all of our students, who have completed their Sixth Form studies, every success in their future endeavours.”
