This year with the changes made in examinations at GCSE the importance of all boys in Y11 having a ‘trial run’ at examinations before Easter is greater than ever. Thus we have even changed the usual name of these examinations from ‘Mocks’ to Pre-Public examinations to emphasise the need to prepare properly for them. On the Syntax (Y11) page you will see the timetable for these examinations.
IGCSE English Language Orals (20% of final English Language Grade)
These will take place for Y11 in Weeks 23, 25 and 26.

opportunity for success are available on The Knowledge A23.

Read For My School
Wimbledon College is taking part in the Read For My School initiative run by Pearson publishing and Penguin books. The scheme encourages pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 to read books online via the Read For My Schools website or to keep a log online of other books they read between January 27th and 28th March. The more you read, the more chances you have to win. Please see THIS LINK for more information on how to login to the website. The school's login code is on a letter from the English department going home to boys in Years 7 and 8 this week. House points will be awarded to all boys who participate and a wide range of other prizes are available, including Regional and National awards and loads of great books. Please support reading in the school!
Alumni Charity Events
Two of our 2012 Rhetoric leavers are undertaking exciting and very different charity events in the next few months.
On 31st March Leon Grozdanovic will be travelling to Honduras for ten weeks in aid of Progressio, a charity that sends volunteers out to under developed societies to help people gain power over their lives and supports communities to stand for themselves. Leon will be working in rural Honduras to help improve the lives of under developed populations and help teach in local schools.
At the end of the summer, Cian Hanley will be taking part in a 16 day trek along the Great Wall of China with the aim of raising £2500 for the Make A Wish Foundation which helps terminally ill children realise some of their dreams.
If you would like to support either of these ex students, please follow the links to their fundraising pages: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/cianhanley or https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/leongrozdanovic.

Kevin Kararwa appeal for bone marrow donor
We would like to bring to your attention the appeal that has been made both on ITV London News and in the Wimbledon Guardian.
Kevin is an old boy of the College and is suffering from a rare form of leukaemia. He requires a bone marrow transplant to save his life.
He is appealing to people of East African origin/descent to come forward and join the British Bone Marrow Registry, not just for himself but for others, as there is a shortage of donors.
We would ask that you pass on this request as widely as possible to raise awareness of this need both in the local community and nationally.
Further information about becoming a bone marrow donor can be found by clicking here
